About Us
Established in 1967, the YCVA was formed by concerned citizens as a non-profit organization and has continuously provided services to the York County and Poquoson citizens since that time. As a young organization with a handful of volunteers, the association was incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia and is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the volunteers annually at a meeting open to the public. Work is done through committees who report monthly to the Board of Directors. Over the years, things have changed tremendously. The handful of volunteers has grown to over a hundred dedicated individuals who give their time to help whenever and wherever needed. The yard sales first established to raise money eventually gave way to a small thrift shop established in upper York County. After several years, YCVA purchased land and built a facility to house The Bargain Box. The Bargain Box is now located at 222 Dare Road in York County. The Bargain Box is the arm of the YCVA, which actually produces the revenue for the YCVA.Bargain Box News
The Bargain Box is always in need of donations to support York County and Poquoson organizations. Due to limited space we are unable to accept large furniture to include couches, chairs, table, wall units, mattresses, bed frames, wardrobes, or dressers. Small electrical appliances in working order may be accepted and our intake volunteers can advise if we can accept your items. Items on recall lists or items requiring special handling (paint, solvent, tires, etc.)cannot be accepted. Drop off items are accepted at the rear of our store or may be placed in the drop-off boxes provided. We ask that you not drop off items and leave them outside as they may become unusable due to inclement weather.
Come by and visit us. Our prices are reasonable and our volunteers are always ready to make you feel welcome.
One of the key assets at the Bargain Box are our team of volunteers who donate many hours a week to support our community. We appreciate your patronage and donations.
